Marek Schovánek is a political interrogator. His actions establish an inquiry and at times a severe judgement. His works constitute an inversion and dissection of social, historical, political and aesthetic theory as an ongoing process. His artistic work encompasses an oeuvre of considerable scope and is included in many private and public collections worldwide. It is not limited to one medium, but ranges from painting to sculpture to temporary installations and covers a wide spectrum in the choice of genres.

In many of his works, Schovánek uses beeswax and the concept of steganography, the practice of concealing messages within seemingly innocuous objects or images. This serves as a potent metaphor for the fragility and impermanence of life, as well as the inherent chaos and unpredictability of the natural world. The artist uses different means as a lens through which to explore themes of mortality, metamorphosis, and the delicate balance between order and chaos in the human condition.
